Dear Friends,

Throughout the last nearly two years, we have individually and collectively made adjustments — the way we live, how we work, the shape of creative collaboration, the nature of performance. I found myself immersed with young talent in 2021, fueled by their energy and inspired by what we created together in the midst of wild circumstances. New commissions filled the year from University of North Carolina School of the ArtsYoungArts FoundationHofstra University, as well as with dance educators with Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) and the NYC Department of Education here at home. KEIGWIN + COMPANY’s work ranged from uncovering innovative new ways to create virtual dances to a joyous return to the studio.

It’s been a true gift to create new work in collaboration with young artists as we carve a path forward. Now, I feel even more excited to connect as we look to 2022, which will find K+C busier than ever creating work in community, by community — from the park to the screen.

  • In the Park: I’ve been so inspired by the park as a gathering place and a pathway to connect with nature, self, and others. My recent walks in the park have provided the spark to dream up K+C newest community work, Rhapsody After Blue, which will take us to Central Park where the pedestrian will merge with the virtuosic as movement is shaped by running, rollerblading, and more. With a twist on George Gershwin’s iconic “Rhapsody in Blue,” Rhapsody After Blue will feature 50+ community members in a celebration of art-making, humanity, and shared space, presented in Central Park in summer 2022.
  • On Screen: K+C returns to production for our long-awaited film Bolero Seniors — where reality is elevated and the ordinary becomes the extraordinary in a water ballet and celebration of artistry, aging, and community. The pandemic forced us to hit pause on Bolero Seniors and we look forward to fall 2022 as we dive into the pool and breathe life into the stories of our vibrant group of seniors.
K+C has only been able to navigate the uncertainty of this moment with your ongoing support. The road ahead for dance and performing arts organizations continues to be uncertain as we uncover new ways of creating and sharing our work. To ensure K+C’s continued sustainability and our ability to embark on projects that get us all dancing together, we now ask for your help. Please consider giving a year-end contribution and make a direct impact on our ability to gather dancers and community members alike to nourish creativity, connection, and collaboration in the year ahead.

Thank you for being a part of the K+C family.

With warm wishes,

Larry Keigwin
Artistic Director
